Merry Christmas!

I just want to write to those that read this blog that I wish them a Merry Christmas this holiday season. I hope everyone is joyful and happy in this cold (or warm) winter season. It is close to the end of the year! I may not have written as much this year compared to last year, but I did edit and publish 3 short stories as ebooks this year. I am currently in the middle of writing two short stories and I recently started to brainstorm ideas on a really old novel that I put on hiatus way back in high school. I still have ideas flowing through, but those are for short stories and my novels. My flash fiction entries have slowed down as I can't think up original ideas for short writing prompts. I'll try though. For a short time in 2013, I did use a random idea prompt generator online to jumpstart my flash fiction writing. For a while after that, I did go out quite a bit so I observe my surroundings to gather inspiration for those sweet and short story ideas. I haven't gone ou

Flash Fiction #36 - Calis

After reading through old posts that I wrote, I had planned to write some short snippets of side stories for some minor characters in my epic WIP, Twins, which will be part of a bigger series called the Crystalite Saga. I only wrote one so far, which was Nanashi, the Demon Slayer (aka Ian), the badass white-haired scythe-wielding fighter. This short side story will be about Calis, an average girl who wants to know what it is like to be strong. ~~~ "Mother? What happened to you?" Calis opened the front door to their home and dropped the basket of fruits and vegetables to see her on the floor, crying. Upon a closer look, she saw parts of her mother's dress was torned and her hair was a  mess. Her mother shook her head and got up, shrugging her shoulders. "It's nothing, dear." "Oh my god! Let me get you something for that bruise." Calis saw it underneath her mother's right eye and went to their freezer for a slab of frozen meat. "Th

Flash Fiction #35

I didn't know what to do. Everything had happened so fast. I'm glad that my uncle was with us when it happened, or else, he may have been dead before getting to the hospital. I just froze at the sight of my dad falling to the ground while clutching his chest in pain. My eyes widened in shock, and I could hear the thermos that I held hitting against the ground at my feet. Even though everything around me seemed so chaotic and fast, my ears blocked out all of the sound except for the beating from my heart. My uncle snapped me back as he tried to perform CPR, yelling, "May! Call the ambulance now!" "Okay!" I took out my phone and dialed as my fingers shook as if they weren't in my control. When the paramedics finally came, my shoulders relaxed from being tense as help finally arrived. My uncle wiped the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand. They lifted my father onto a stretcher and followed them towards the ambulance. Since the paramedics

New Short Story

I've been working on a new short story the past couple of weeks. I had another one in the works, but that kind of went on hold for now. That one is called Fireflies (tentative title). It's supposedly a story about long distance relationship between a young couple when one of them goes to the city for school while leaving the other one behind. That's the gist of it at the moment. This new short story is temporarily called A Day Before. I'm not sure whether I will keep it (probably not), but it kind of goes with how I first thought of the story from the initial idea. I woke up from a dream which had a character, Phil, being heart broken from breaking up with his girlfriend, Mimi. The dream started out in a bar with his two good friends, and he tried to drink his sorrows away. Then his ex-girlfriend, Mimi walked into the bar with a new date and Phil noticed. Before things got out of hand, Phil's friends forced him to leave. After being outside, Phil wanted to go on h

Winter. Spring. Summer. Autumn. As I stared outside, each passing season always give me a signal that my birthday is coming up during the year. Here I am in this room all alone. Every other day in the year is all the same. Sleep. Eat. Work. There's no one to spend it with, and I'm just too tired to do anything after work. It must have been that time when everything became the same day after day. Days became weeks which in turn became months, and eventually years. I'm not sure what to do with my life anymore. I'm not good at anything, and am satisfied being the mediocre person in a mediocre job for a predictable future.  What was it like to have passion? You must have taught me in high school when we met. That first meeting when you picked up the guitar after walking into the music room, and started playing. You must have heard me playing down the hallway. The good thing about playing the piano when I was younger was it could be played solo. I never had friends, and

Flash Fiction #33

The sun was starting to descend in the sky as the time reached early evening. Jackie decided to take a walk after dinner and he ended up in the nearby park. As he pass by a lonely bench, he decided on the spot to take a seat. Jackie leaned back against the bench and looked up at the naked trees. "Looks like winter is about to be over. Weather is warming up, and..." Then he heard a female voice beside him, "And most of the snow has melted, right?" Jackie turned his head to see who had this familiar voice. It was his friend, Kim. He lied, "I wasn't going to say that at all, Kim." She sat down beside him on the bench. "What were you going to say then?" He took a deep breath to try to come up with something on the spot. "Well, I was going to say that the flowers will be blooming soon." She seemed to have fallen for it, and laughed. "Good one, Jackie. I thought I knew how you thought for a moment there." "There

Flash Fiction #32

On a late Saturday morning, I stood leaning on a grocery cart waiting for the butcher to hand me the meat that I asked him to cut up for me. I peered down on the small piece of paper with the list of groceries to get for dinner tonight and the rest of the week. After hearing the voice of a little girl beside me, I couldn't help but look to my side to see her and her mother. "Mommy," she said while pulling on her mom's purse to get her attention. "Mommy." Her mom ignored her daughter's nagging since she was busy looking at the various of meat products, deciding what to get before asking the butcher for some help. Judging by the way the young girl was acting, she couldn't be more than 9 years old. She only wanted to get her mom's attention since she was bored. I couldn't help but relate to being in that kind of situation when I was younger. Being dragged along with parents wherever they went, especially the grocery stores where I had no i

Summary: After two weeks from the break up from his first love, Jackie has been reminiscing the memories about her while his good friend, Kim, has been trying to support him to move on. Then as if fantasy meets reality, Jackie gets a second chance to try to make things right from help that he least suspects. Smashwords book link: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/410000 This was my first short story that I have written and finished compared to the other short stories. I left the first draft alone for a couple of years before going back to look over it. Although this was the first one to be done, I didn't feel that I wanted to edit it and this became a second or third short story to be self-published. Comparing the first draft and the last draft, the first half of the story remained the same for the most part with some minor changes here and there to fit the new second half of the story. Although I was satisfied with the first draft, there was something about the way it
