Flash Fiction #16

As you may have guessed, this was one of a group of ideas that I had imagined on my cruise vacation. During the trip, I just quickly wrote down the main idea and did not expand upon it until now. I hope that I captured the original idea that I had... But hope you enjoy it regardless =)

~~~
On the second day of the trip, it was pure bliss enjoying the hot sun by the beach lying on a chair with the cool breeze coming from the ocean. There was no need to worry about work, or any stressful situation. It was like a reset button, and a time to recharge. Moments earlier, I made sure to put on enough sun screen to avoid looking like a red pepper. After my brief nap, a cousin sat down beside me. "You should join us in the water. It feels cool, and fantastic."
"In a bit." I looked up at her, and watched her go back to the water. After a couple of minutes, I decided to stand up and make my way down to the beach. As soon as my feet touched the water, it was freezing cold. Shiv…
"What sort of performance are they going to do again, Dad?" I asked with my back straightened and eyes wide as I sat on my seat in the auditorium.
"It's a figure skating show." He turned to …
9:30 PM. I sighed as I glanced at the time on the bottom right corner of the computer screen. Another late night at work. I closed another binder filled with paperwork, and set it aside on the furthest corner of my cubicle. I looked at the last binder in front of me out of the many binders around my desk and on the floor. I placed my glasses on the table, and rubbed my exhausted eyes. I took out my cell phone and looked at my text message sent at 6 PM to my long-term girlfriend. "I'm sorry, Stella. Too busy at work. I'll be late for dinner. You don't have to wait up for me."
She responded back then with this. "It's okay, I understand. I'll leave l…
Flash Fiction #13
The past couple of days have been a mix of a break and focusing more on my WIPs. Sorry about that. I started from scratch on one of my novels, and I realized just how long of a path it will take to reach the end this time around. How I never had this thought about writing this novel before befuddles me...
This flash fiction story came to be after I took a walk at a park yesterday. I was watching a family of three, and this idea came into my head which I then quickly went off on my own tangent...
~~~
Just as we came into the park, my only daughter, aged 4 years old, had run off from the path to enjoy the cool breeze under the clear skies and sun. My wife went after her as she called, "Lily, don't go too far! Wait up!"
Lily stopped at the spot she was on the grass, turned around, and grinned. "Catch me!" Then she continued running as my wife continued lagging behind.
I laughed as I took out my DSLR camera from my bag, and began to adjust the settings on it after…

Flash Fiction Special: Dual Birthdays

I just want to say that yesterday (May 14th) was my birthday, but there's something that is special about it that I will never forget the date of my birthday. My brother's birthday is the day after (May 15th), and from as early as I can remember, we have always celebrated our birthdays together since it made logical sense. If I think of when my birthday is, I can't forget his and vice versa. It makes sense to me in my opinion. I just want to do a short fictional writing about this... Hope you enjoy =)

~~~
"What should I get for his birthday?" Tom began to walk down another aisle in the department store, exhausted. "Kim, please suggest some ideas. I don't know what to get for him."
Kim had been looking at her smart phone as they walked through the store, playing games to distract her from her boredom. In any other circumstances, she would be up for shopping but Tom had woke her up in the wee hours in the morning to get to the shopping mall. Her irrit…
When I was writing this short story, like all of my other work-in-progresses be it both short stories or novels, it is based on my own experiences with fictional ideas. This story is a reflection of three particular moments in recent years. Two of them are pretty obvious in the story, but the third memory may not be so obvious. I had based a real person that I look up to as one of the main characters. I really wanted to do something to show how much she has affected my own life, and I thought, "What about I try…
Flash Fiction #12
This week would be the very first cruise ship that I had taken in my entire life so far. My parents paid for the trip, so I treated it as a sort of celebration from university. The day that we would take the airplane down south to the Carribean to board the cruise ship made my heart pump faster, and my palms all sweaty. Along with being my first cruise, this would be my first time on an airplane. The fear of falling from heights started from my childhood when I fell a couple of times from the top of my bunk bed at home. The trip didn't seem so bad and thankfully I didn't get motion sickness while on the plane. The only uncomfortable feeling I would mention would be the change in air pressure on my ears both at the take off and landing.
Never mind about that. The reason I'm writing is because of who I saw on the deck of the cruise ship on the first day. I don't even know her name. It may seem childish to still believe in love at first sight, but I truly felt that when I…
